HOSPICE SLO COUNTY TO HOLD IN-HOME VOLUNTEER TRAINING

Classes will be in March and April 2024

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – Hospice SLO County, a non-profit organization that provides support to individuals and families facing a life-limiting illness, end of life, or grief, is seeking dedicated volunteers to join its vital in-home support team.

The next training program for volunteers begins on March 6, 2024, and runs for six consecutive Wednesdays from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The sessions will be in person at the Hospice SLO County office at 1304 Pacific Street, San Luis Obispo.

This comprehensive 18-hour training program provides volunteers with the skills and knowledge needed to offer comfort, companionship, and practical assistance to individuals and families navigating the challenges related to health, quality of life, illness, end-of-life decisions, dying, death, and grief.

Class topics include:

·         Exploring personal attitudes about dying and death

·         Boundaries and communication skills

·         Dementia care and compassion fatigue

·         Anticipatory grief and bereavement

·         Spiritual, practical, and emotional support needs of clients and families including family dynamics

No prior experience is necessary. Hospice SLO County welcomes individuals from all walks of life committed to making a meaningful difference in their community. Dedication, compassion, and a willingness to learn are the most essential qualifications.

Upon successful completion of the training program, volunteers will be matched with individuals and families facing life-limiting illnesses, providing companionship, respite care, and support in the comfort of their own homes. Volunteers can tailor their involvement to fit their schedules and interests, up to four hours per week.

Hospice SLO County's volunteer training is offered free of charge. Donations are greatly appreciated. Pre-registration is necessary to reserve a space in this class.
