PRESS RELEASE: Huge Community Event in Avila Beach on June 8th

05/20/2024  – Get Beneath the Surface this World Oceans Day for a cleanup event above and below sea. Hosted by local organizations, Revive Dive, ECOSLO, and the Central Coast Aquarium, this unique beach clean-up event is for all types of beachgoers looking to get involved in conservation efforts.

Beneath the Surface on June 8th is an all-ages, family-friendly event and will feature live music, a BBQ, activities, and more. The group clean-ups will happen below Harford Pier as well as along the Avila Beach shoreline.

“This event will be a great opportunity to connect all types of ocean lovers, as well as give people an up-and-close view into the world of diving, whether they are interested in pursuing their certification or just interested in the extensive safety and mechanical procedures taken on every dive,” shares Brett Strickland, a founding member of Revive Dive. Rooted in a commitment to environmental preservation, pier advocacy, and restorative justice, Revive Dive is transforming underwater landscapes, while also providing educational and community service opportunities to at-risk youth and adults seeking opportunities.

The event is on Saturday, June 8th, starting at 8:00 am at Harford Pier (3950 Avila Beach Dr, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405). The Beach Clean-up with ECOSLO starts at 9am at Avila Beach Community Park. Food, games, and music will start at 11:30am at the Central Coast Aquarium.

Registration is required and highly appreciated for both the pier and beach clean-up.
