Kara is a thirty-plus year resident of San Luis Obispo, mother, lawyer, Cal Poly graduate in Business Administration, and a former financial planner, VP, and Chief Compliance Officer at Blakeslee & Blakeslee, a Central Coast financial planning firm. Kara has worked for Senator Laird (who represents the 17th Senate District including most of San Luis Obispo County) since he was elected to the State Senate in 2021 and serves as his District Director and Senior Policy Advisor. She is a long-standing member of the Diablo Canyon Decommissioning Engagement Panel and is a board member and Vice Chair of the El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO).
