An Afternoon of Songs and Stories with Roger McGuinn

Living a life of music, Roger McGuinn founded the psychedelic folk band The Byrds in 1964. For his legendary contributions to popular music, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 as a member of the band. As a solo artist, he has released 10 albums and collaborated with Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Chris Hillman and many others. Born in Chicago, Roger McGuinn began playing at 14 and professionally at age 17, first with The Limeliters and later with The Chad Mitchell Trio and Bobby Darin. After moving to New York to work as a songwriter and session musician, he became Judy Collins' musical director, helped Paul Simon record the demo for "Sound of Silence," and was active in the recording business as the go-to guy for 12-string guitar. But it wasn't until McGuinn left New York for Los Angeles to open for Hoyt Axton that a musical revolution was born. Alongside Hoyt Axton, Gene Clark, David Crosby, and Chris Hillman, he formed The Byrds, whose groundbreaking sound helped define folk rock for generations and produced hits like "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Turn! Turn! Turn!" Since leaving The Byrds in 1973, McGuinn has released acclaimed solo and collaborative recordings, founded his own recording label, championed traditional folk music, and continued recording and touring for fans around the world.
