Lumina Nights: Dancing with Our Stars Celebrates Transformation and Healing

San Luis Obispo, CA – Lumina Alliance invites the community to join us at the beautiful Pavilion on the Lake in Atascadero for Lumina Nights: Dancing with Our Stars on May 1, 2, and 3, 2025. Enjoy an evening of music, local wine and beer, dining, and thrilling performances by community stars. This year’s theme, Transformation, highlights the meaningful changes we strive for in the lives of survivors and our entire community.

Local dancers, including Mary Verdin (Verdin Marketing), Eric Yun (Community West Bank), LeBren Harris (SLO Downtown Association), Jennifer Idler (Idler's Home), Heather Moreno (SLO County District 5 Supervisor), and Rob Garcia (Corvus Wealth Advisors), will take the stage to shine a light on the journey of healing and empowerment. Eric Yun shared, "I am dancing to support Lumina’s work in creating a safer community for survivors. Every step brings us closer to a more compassionate world."

The evening will also honor several local individuals and organizations with awards recognizing their commitment to creating positive change. Detective Hayden Warner (SLOPD) is honored as an ALLY for his trauma-informed approach to working with survivors, ensuring they feel empowered rather than retraumatized while strengthening collaboration between Lumina Alliance and law enforcement. Betty Woolslayer is recognized with a LEGACY Award for her decades of dedication as a volunteer and board member. From 2009 to 2016, she served on the board of the Women’s Shelter, including two years as president. Her financial expertise and unwavering advocacy guided the organization through critical transitions, leaving a lasting impact on survivors and the community. Marianne Kennedy receives a LEGACY Award for her 29 years of dedication as Executive Director of the Women’s Shelter Program from 1987 to 2016. Her leadership was pivotal in securing the SLO emergency shelter and two transitional housing complexes, providing a total of 10 units to ensure lasting support for survivors seeking safety and healing. Thoma Electric, led by Bill and Jeff Thoma, is celebrated as a SUPPORTER for its steadfast commitment to Lumina Alliance, consistently providing in-kind electrical work for our shelters and transitional housing—demonstrating a deep understanding of the importance of safe, functional spaces for survivors. Diversity Coalition San Luis Obispo County is honored as a SUPPORTER for its dedication to fostering equity and inclusion through education, public awareness, and community initiatives that challenge bias and promote unity. These honorees exemplify the spirit of resilience, advocacy, and allyship that defines Lumina Alliance’s mission. Jatzibe Sandoval, Community Impact & Volunteer Director at Lumina Alliance, receives the HERO Award for her tireless advocacy, particularly in juvenile justice programs, where her justice-oriented approach and deep emotional support have made a lasting impact on both clients and staff.
